Echoes was part of a long-term programme of work by Friction Arts, which focused on the heritage and history of Digbeth and Highgate in Birmingham, UK, from 1960 to 1990.

Since 2008, Friction collected stories and archived information about the area, particularly examining the themes of ‘work’ and ‘play’, which lead to a large-scale exhibition in the Summer of 2013.

Echoes was a programme of events and exhibitions, but also helped people to archive their stories for future generations, through adding their histories to The Library of Birmingham’s archive, ensuring access to them for future generations.  You can access the archive from March 2014. More information to follow…

Although Echoes is over, there are still a number of ways to take part in heritage-based activities at Friction Arts. The hugely popular Yard Talk events will continue through 2014. Visit Friction Arts website or sign-up to the monthly newsletter for more information.
