As part of the Echoes project, Friction Arts collected 50 oral histories from people who lived, worked and played in the Digbeth and Highgate areas of Birmingham. The full oral histories can be accessed from the Library of Birmingham’s archive or from Friction Arts (full details below).
You can listen to short samples of each oral history on this site and explore the contents of each story in the Echoes database. We’ve also included some slightly longer stories, which you can access here.
To access the archive from Friction Arts simply email info@frictionarts with your request and we’lll get back in touch to arrange a convenient time for you to visit us in Cheapside, Digbeth. The archive exists digitally on a number of portable media devices, which includes over 80 audio files and a spreadsheet that details their content. You are welcome to borrow the media device or copy the files onto your own USB stick.
